about

Distant voices announce the advance on New Rome, and just as ancient Rome once fell, other empires and other ways of life inherently give way to new forms of being that rise up out of the ashes. The overtones and imagery in this song remind us that we are at the precipice of great change. The tension lies in not knowing what that change might be. Have a listen and feel free to comment.

lyrics

New Rome

The sun was bleeding red,
In a broken sky
Written on my face,
No trace of a lie
We all came out to play
It was a bleeding bloody day

Welcome… to New Rome Now
Welcome …to New Rome Now

The King was on his throne
Sitting all alone
Deciding who would live,
And choosing who would die
While The People with their stones
Made their way to Rome

What have they done to my home
Why must all roads lead to Rome
Welcome… to New Rome Now

The sound of bleeding strings
Plucked by plutocrats
Drumbeats in the fields,
Hoofbeats from the east
Faces raised… t’ward the sky
Blood in every eye

Welcome… to New Rome Now
Welcome ….to New Rome Now
Welcome… to New Rome Now

New Rome, New Rome
New Rome, New Rome
